If you’re looking for canal side vibes, then Aluna is the place for you. Based in the Mailbox, Aluna is an eclectic cocktail bar and restaurant that focuses on Pan Asian food. Busy and buzzy with a well stocked bar, well curated playlist and good vibes, Aluna caters for date night/ mate night and everything in between for that weekday or weekend fix.
The restaurant is warm and cosy but don’t let that fool you, this is definitely a place to head to if you’re looking for a lively and vibrant atmosphere.
The food menu showcases Pan Asian food with lots of choice to suit most tastes. It’s packed with small plates like Chilli Salt Squid and Seared Beef Sashimi to medium-sized plates to share, such as Red Crispy Duck Curry and Green Chicken & Lychee Curry. The choice extends into the cocktail menu which is vast and includes classic cocktails you’d be familiar with and dramatic and magical cocktails that you’ll only find in Aluna.
We start with Porn Star Martinis because every good night begins with this cocktail which is that good, I forget to take a photo #sorrynotsorry.
We share a selection of small plates which are actually more generous than small. Chicken Gyoza comes in neat parcels, packed with finely chopped water chestnut, coriander, spring onion with a rich sweet black vinegar to dunk and dip into.
Veggie Banh Trang Rolls are bites of Summer, stuffed with texture and taste, with the addition of coriander adding the ultimate freshness.
Creamy Coconut & Peanut Chicken Skewers are comforting and a light dish to share.
Strips of Beef Bulgogi Sirloin are served medium as requested, seasoned well with herbs, pepper and chilli. The steak is tender, juicy and packs a real kick from the fresh chilli. This is my favourite dish of the night.
I really enjoyed the food and cocktails at Aluna and it was a fun and vibrant atmosphere to kick-start the weekend. The service was friendly and attentive and we were completely looked after. Aluna isn’t going to blow you away with the food, granted, but its tasty and fulfilling and accompanies the eclectic cocktails on offer well.
*I was invited along to try the food as a guest of Aluna but didn’t have to write about it. As always, my opinions are my own, because what good would I get from not being honest?*
