It’s not often I return to the same place for breakfast without fear of missing out from elsewhere, but with Lewis’s there’s absolutely no fear, nothing, nada, nope.
Lewis’s is a cosy, cool cafe based in Moseley, serving a mix of hot food for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner; cakes, a variety of drinks and much more from local independent producers.
Put simply, the breakfast on offer is banging and is possibly the best breakfast I’ve had in Moseley. And I’m not taking that back. It almost pains me to say it, because I want to keep it quiet so that I can always get a table and a head start on my weekend, but you’ve gotta share the love and all that…
I’ve been to Lewis’s a number of times for breakfast now and I seem to always order the same two items, which alternate, depending on how big Friday night was for food.
On the first few occasions, we ordered a Full English Breakfast- bacon, sausages, grilled tomato, mushrooms, a potato rosti, a choice of eggs and sourdough. It was cooked perfectly, bursting with flavour and tasted exceptionally clean.
The standouts for me were the poached eggs which were really fresh with bright orange yolks and the crispy bacon because there is nothing worse than under cooked bacon. It was like eating a Full English Breakfast was good for me. Winner. The staff are also happy for you to mix up some of the items, so if ‘srooms aren’t your bag, let them know.
On the last two occasions, I ordered Smashed Avocado and Chilli on sourdough with a drizzle of pesto olive oil. This single drizzle, changed the game completely and was a killer combo. Delicious. I also ordered some extra bacon and mushrooms which again were cooked perfectly.
The drinks menu has lots of choice, including tea, coffee, hot chocolate and mint tea amongst other things. I settled for a hot chocolate which was extra hot and beat the warm drinks served up and down the high street hands down. Why do coffee shops serve warm drinks? I will never know.
Lewis’s is a great little spot in Moseley and the atmosphere is always so buzzy and cosy. It’s the perfect place to spend a few hours on a weekend or mid-week if you’re lucky enough to work from home or have a day off. Because nothing is better than spending time in a neighborhood cafe when everyone else is working…
The staff are also lovely and friendly and were keen to tell me about their Lebanese supper nights on Thursdays and Fridays, which look really good. See you there?
