Indian food. Its my favourite. For dinner, lunch or breakfast- I’m looking at you Dishoom- it’s the ultimate feast for me. Maybe it’s because I spent time living and eating my way through Mumbai or maybe it’s just because. If there’s a new Indian place to eat in town, I want in.
Indico is an Indian street food kitchen and bar based in Shirley and a few weeks ago I attended the launch. From the moment you walk in, it’s bursting with colour, character and vibrancy. The bar takes centre stage, colourful murals cover every wall and umbrellas, bicycle wheels and trinkets hang from the ceilings. It looks good.
The food menu is quirky-in the form of a newspaper and features a variety of familiar street food. We sampled the tandoori chicken, vegetable pakoras, lamb kebab and tikka paneer which were all really tasty and perfect for sharing with friends or on your own because sharing is not always caring. I just wanted more with each sampling! I was pleased to see that flatbread rolls and tiffin boxes featured on the menu too as these are something I like to eat but never find when usually eating Indian food out in Brum. Just the history of tiffin boxes is pretty cool and then there’s the Hindi film, google it…
The drinks menu is extensive, including mocktails, cocktails, wine, beer and chai. I sampled a mango martini which tasted amazing and an Indian wine cooler which reminded me of sangria. I also tried the Goa beer which was really, really good and complimented the light bites perfectly. Can we just take a moment to appreciate the cool bottle? I’m a sucker for nice packaging, soz.
I enjoyed the evening at Indico and the atmosphere was really fun. The kitchen & bar is a great place for a post work drink and bite to eat on a thirsty Thursday (its a thing, OK) or a weekend. Whist I don’t live local, if you live in or around Shirley, this is a great place to go in an area that needs an injection of Indian vibrancy. Go and see for yourself.
Indico can be found at 16 Parkgate Shopping Centre, Stratford Road, Shirley, B90 3GG.
*Thanks to Delicious PR, I was invited to try the food and drink. My opinions are my own*
